Doorstep TV Repair in Delhi: How It Works, and Why Your TV Should Never Leave Home

Technician performing doorstep TV repair at a customer's home in Delhi

There is one piece of advice in this entire blog that will save you more money than all the rest combined, so we will lead with it:

Do not let anyone take your television away.

The moment your TV is loaded into a van, you have surrendered every piece of leverage you had. You cannot see what is done to it. You cannot verify which parts were actually replaced. You cannot dispute the bill, because they are holding the television. And the timeline becomes whatever they say it is — "one more week" is a sentence many Delhi households have heard four times in a row.

Almost nothing requires this. Here is what doorstep repair actually looks like, and where its real limits are.

What a technician can genuinely do in your living room

Far more than most people assume. With a meter, a hot air station and the right strips and boards in the bag, the majority of television faults are living-room work:

  • Full diagnosis. Opening the back, testing the power rails, and identifying exactly which board or component has failed. This is the step that matters most, and it always happens at your home.
  • LED backlight strip replacement. The most common repair we do. It needs care and a clean flat surface, not a workshop. See backlight failure explained.
  • Power supply (SMPS) board repair. Failed capacitors are replaced on the spot.
  • Sound and audio faults. Amplifier ICs, speakers, output stages. More on power & sound repair.
  • Board replacement. T-CON, main board, Wi-Fi module — swapped in place.
  • Loose or oxidised LVDS ribbon cables. The cheapest fix in the business, and one you will never hear about from a shop that has your TV in its back room.
  • Software issues. Firmware reflashes, factory resets, network faults. Smart TV problems guide.

What genuinely needs a workshop

We will be straight with you, because a shop that claims everything can be done at home is as dishonest as one that claims everything needs collecting.

Deep component-level board repair — tracing a fault across a dense multi-layer board, microsoldering a BGA chip, rework that needs a microscope and a bench supply — is not living-room work. Neither is a full panel replacement on a large screen, which needs a clean space and more than one pair of hands to lift the glass safely.

If your fault falls into that category, the correct process is: diagnose at your home, explain the reason, agree a price and a return date, put it in writing, and only then move the television. Not "let us take it and we will call you." Those are different transactions and only one of them protects you.

What a doorstep visit should look like

  1. You describe the symptom on the phone and get a visit slot — not a firm repair quote. Any shop that quotes a repair price before seeing the TV is guessing, and will revise it.
  2. The technician arrives and opens the set in front of you. You should be able to watch. There is nothing secret happening.
  3. You are told what failed and why — a specific component, not "motherboard problem." A real technician can name it.
  4. You get a total before work begins: parts, labour, the visit charge, and GST. In one number.
  5. You approve, or you decline. If you decline, you pay the visit charge and nothing else. That is the deal.
  6. The repair is done, the TV is tested in front of you, and you are given the warranty terms and, if you ask, the old part.

If any of those six steps is missing, ask why.

The questions worth asking on the phone

  • "Is the visit charge adjusted into the repair bill if I go ahead?" At RR Electronics it is. Get a straight yes or no from anyone else.
  • "Will you diagnose it at my home?" If the answer is that it must be collected first, before anyone has even looked at it, keep dialling.
  • "What is the warranty on the part and on the labour, in writing?" An unwarranted repair is a repair you may be paying for twice.
  • "Are you an authorised service centre for my brand?" We are not, and we say so. Anyone claiming to be an authorised centre for every brand at once is not telling you the truth.

Check your warranty first — genuinely

Before you call any independent shop, including us: if your television is still under manufacturer warranty, stop and go to the brand's own service centre. It will be free, and letting an independent technician open the set will void that cover. We turn away in-warranty work for exactly this reason. Nobody should be paying us for something Samsung, Sony or LG is contractually obliged to do for nothing.

Independent repair is for what comes after the warranty — which, for most televisions, is most of their life.

Why the monsoon matters in Delhi

A local note that catches a lot of people out. Delhi's humidity swings are hard on electronics in two specific ways: connector contacts oxidise, and dust turns into a conductive paste on boards. Every year after the monsoon we see a wave of intermittent faults — a TV that works, then does not, then does again — that trace back to a corroded ribbon connector rather than a failed component.

Combine that with the voltage fluctuation many areas see, and a good stabiliser plus an air gap behind a wall-mounted set genuinely extends the life of your television. Our guide on extending TV lifespan covers the rest.
